“So do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. What I tell you in the darkness, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered in your ear, proclaim on the housetops. And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are two sparrows not sold for an assarion? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all counted. So do not fear; you are more valuable than a great number of sparrows.

-- Matthew 10:26–31

Reflection
As I read this passage a few things stand out to me. First, I see that we should not fear or be ashamed to speak God’s word loud and clear to all those who will listen. He speaks to us in our soul and we should not be afraid to proclaim his word. Sometimes it is hard to talk about God to others. But we should not care about worldly people who can only cause us bodily harm, we should care about God who loves us deeply and knows all our thoughts and actions.

Then Jesus gives us the reassurance about God’s love. God cares deeply for even the sparrows that fly around. Generally, we don’t give these birds a second thought and at the time of Jesus they were the lowest animal, sold for a penny. If God will care for these simple birds imagine how much God loves each one of us.

-- Matt Baculik

Questions
What do we see for “two pennies” that God cares about deeply?
Are you mindful that God loves you so much that there is nothing about you unknown to God? Take some time to remember that your concerns are concerns to God too.

Prayer
God we give thanks for the sparrows sold for two pennies, the squirrels so plentiful we often fail to notice them and for all the priceless people we encounter this day. Then you for your love and care. Amen.
