March 30

On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-aged wines strained clear. And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; he will swallow up death forever. Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the Lord has spoken.

– Isaiah 25:6-9

How long they waited for the Messiah, the anointed one. Isaiah wrote of the one who will come to live among God’s people and cast God’s power on the earth. Death will be destroyed forever as the promise of eternal life is realized. And in heaven the Lord God will wipe away every tear from their faces, a nod to the prophecy found in Revelation.

The Messiah is Jesus Christ! He did not come in the expected way as a military leader, or a political leader or even a religious leader of the day. Rather he came as God’s beloved Son to show us how to live in the right way for God. Yes, the long wait is over and we are saved through the One who loves us so much he was even faithful to die on the cross for our sake. This good news is not just for us but for all of the nations of the earth.

We can trust in the Lord who knows us, claims us and loves in the name of Jesus the Christ, the Messiah.

PRAYER:

Thank you God for the blessings of our lives, the pleasure of good food, the joy of friends and most of all, the gift of your son Jesus Christ our Lord! Amen.
