March 28

Though the fig tree does not blossom, and no fruit is on the vines; though the produce of the olive fails and the fields yield no food; though the flock is cut off from the fold and there is no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will exult in the God of my salvation. God, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, and makes me tread upon the heights. To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments.

– Habakkuk 3:17-19

Habakkuk is a prophet in 612 B.C., during a time of injustice and corruption, with life being difficult and the land bleak. Habakkuk put his trust, faith and loyalty in God, which kept him strong, triumphant and perhaps even happy. To be fortunate is a master of opinion or degree. To be fortunate is to have faith in a higher power, to have trust in God. For “In God We Trust”. Some people count themselves as either fortunate or unfortunate…but should it matter? With faith in God are we all not fortunate? Should we all not rejoice as our faith gives us strength to deal with life’s ups and downs, fortune and misfortune? An individual’s faith should not waiver when things do not go the way one wants but instead lead one to be grateful for all that one does have…be it health, family or friends. God provides if we just believe and have faith. As the lyrics go…”You can’t always get what you want but if you try sometime (and pray sometime), you might find, you’ll get what you need.”

PRAYER:

Lord, help me remember to be grateful for all that I have… health, family and friends. And when life isn’t going my way, help strengthen my faith in You who provides what I need. Amen.
