Volunteer Opportunities - Outreach

OPPORTUNITY REVIEW TEAM

Reviews all requests for assistance, either financial or hands-on, received by Westminster Presbyterian Church and/or staff and recommends appropriate next step action to the Outreach Commission. This is a first line review and does not imply final action or a commitment. In some cases it may be a request for additional information. The purpose of the review team is to provide an unbiased assessment of the request without regard to current projects.

LOCAL MISSION PLANNING TEAM

Plans, organizes, and works on hands-on local mission projects. Time required: 3 to 5 hours per month. Additional time as needed to complete special projects. This group works with a significant amount of the church budget on an important part of the overall mission outreach of Westminster Church. Local Mission Team is committed to handle its responsibility with love, understanding and good stewardship.

HANDS-ON LOCAL MISSION HELPER

When local mission projects are identified and scheduled, hands-on workers are needed. Work on multiple projects or just one. Projects are supervised by skilled craftspeople. Westminster members of all ages and abilities provide the willing spirits and elbow grease to do the manual labor. Time required varies from a morning to all day.

HUNGER COMMITTEE

Reaches out in the local community to help provide non-perishable food for local food pantries. Monthly food donations are provided to SHIM and Washington City Mission. Fill-A-Truck supports many area food pantries. Souper Bowl of Caring is another event sponsored by this committee. No special skills needed. Just a willingness to help the hungry in our community.

FILL-A-TRUCK HELPER

Westminster teams with Christ United Methodist and St. Thomas More to sponsor Fill-A-Truck usually held on Pentecost Sunday. Many helpers are needed on that day to receive the tons of non-perishable food that is donated by generous Westminster members. No special skills necessary. Just a willingness to help receive the donations on Sunday morning.
