Westminster Gifting Tree

The Outreach Commission is excited to introduce the Westminster Gifting Tree. Westminster often gets requests from our mission agency partners to provide specific items to help the people they serve. IHN may need items for their families, Washington City Mission may need medical clinic supplies, SHIM may need a specific item for their food bank. The Deacons also occasionally identify emergency needs requested by families in distress (clothing, etc).

To help, the Outreach Commission has created a year-round Gifting Tree which will have gift tags on it detailing specific items requested from our mission partners – you can select any tag, shop for the item and return your gift right here to the church.

This is a great way for families to teach the gift of giving to their children as well as for anyone in our Westminster family to directly help others in need.  New tags will be added weekly so check out our Gifting Tree (primarily located in the North Entry) and select a gift tag today!

The Gifting Tree – February Focus

Our Gifting tree is going strong – help us to continue this great new channel of giving at Westminster! We have some new tags sprouting on our tree this month and they are ready to be harvested. Here are some of the new items you can find:

• Pillows: IHN/Family Promise has recently purchased some air mattresses as emergency bedding for their clients and they desperately need some new pillows. We would like to provide at least 8 new pillows from Westminster. Will you help us achieve this goal?  Find a pillow tag on our tree to help.
• Tote Bags: Ever go to a conference or a party and receive a tote bag you probably won’t use again as a parting gift? Give it to us!  We don’t care about the size or the advertisement on the bag – we have people and places that can use it such as Produce to the People and SHIM. Any and all tote bags greatly appreciated.
• Toiletries: There is a great need at a local homeless shelter for bar soap, full size shampoo/conditioner, and socks. These are general “every day” things that we may take for granted but for those without much, the expense of these simple things sometimes gets out of reach. On your next shopping trip, consider finding these items for those in need.

We have a lot of great new gifting ideas coming your way so keep on checking out the Gifting Tree. Take a tag, find a gift, and drop it off in one of our four donation bins located around the church. Your generosity has been noted and is extremely appreciated – thank you for your support.
