Nursery School
Who We Are
Westminster Nursery School is an extension of Westminster Presbyterian Church. The program reflects its Christian beliefs, values and traditions by modeling daily the love of God, self and others. WNS encourages and develops spiritual growth by learning Christian values through classroom teaching, reading of Bible stories and prayers, celebrating the seasons and traditional holidays from a Christian perspective. The children participate in "The Wondering Place," filled with Bible stories and songs throughout the year.
Philosophy and Progam
Westminster Nursery School is a NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) accredited program which strives to put its philosophy into practice by offering a safe, yet stimulating environment in which a loving, well-trained staff delivers a developmentally appropriate program. Translated into a daily schedule, WNS offers opportunities for socialization, imaginative play, small and gross motor development, music expression, language development, and an awareness of size, space, time, places and events. The program is mutually centered, in that it includes child initiated play in learning centers (blocks, dramatic play) and indoor and outdoor gross motor time. Teacher-directed activities are also offered, such as circle time, music and stories. A variety of enrichment presentations, special visitors throughout the year, and a hands-on science program compliment the classes.
Our staff of fourteen teachers and two assistants provide a safe, nurturing, stimulating and creative environment which is essential for children to test their own ideas and become confident, independent and inquisitive learners.
Registration
In-house registration, in January, is open to:
- Children enrolled at WNS and WCDC and their siblings who plan to attend the following autumn
- The children of Westminster Church members
Community registration is held after the in-house registration is completed and is open to those in the community who do not meet the "in-house" registration requirements.
Registrations are mail-ins and class placement is on a first come / first serve basis. There is a nonrefundable registration fee of $45 for the first child and $35 for each additional sibling. Notification of enrollment or waiting list placement is announced by mail shortly after both registrations have been completed. For 2009-2010 nursery school registration information, please call 412-835-2906.
